Padding — Glossary
The cushioning beneath carpet or upholstery fabric — the deepest, slowest-drying odor reservoir.
Padding is the layer beneath the surface — under carpet pile, inside upholstery, beneath a mattress cover. It’s where accidents and moisture end up after they soak through, and it’s enclosed and slow to dry.
This is why surface cleaning doesn’t finish the job: the padding holds the residue and keeps releasing odor. Treat it, and let it dry fully.
