Porous Surfaces — Glossary

Materials that absorb liquids and hold residue — fabric, grout, unfinished wood — versus sealed surfaces that wipe clean.

A porous surface has tiny voids that liquids and compounds soak into — fabric, carpet padding, grout, unfinished wood. A non-porous surface — sealed tile, glass, laminate — wipes clean.

Porous surfaces are where pet odor hides. Residue that gets into the pores is out of reach of surface cleaning, which is why the smell persists there.
