Carpet Padding — Glossary
The foam layer under carpet — a sponge that holds urine deposits out of reach of surface cleaning.
Carpet padding is the cushioning layer under the carpet — absorbent foam or fiber that soaks up anything penetrating the pile. A urine accident that reaches the padding has created a reservoir surface cleaning cannot touch.
The padding is why urine odor survives carpet shampooing — the deposit is below the reach of surface methods.
