Marking — Glossary
Deliberate urine deposition by a cat or dog — a localized, higher-intensity odor issue separate from accidents.
Marking is intentional — a cat spraying a vertical surface or a dog urinating to signal territory. It’s different from an accident: smaller volume, often on walls or furniture edges, and frequently repeated in the same spots.
Treat marked areas like urine accidents — enzymatic treatment on the residue. Recurrent marking can have a behavioral component; a vet or behaviorist can help.
