Air Freshener — Glossary
A product that adds fragrance to the air — typically masks odor rather than acting on its source.
Most air fresheners work by masking — releasing a fragrance strong enough to cover the underlying odor. The odor compounds are untouched; when the fragrance fades, the smell returns.
For persistent pet odor, a masking product is a temporary lift at best. Addressing the residue producing the odor is the durable approach.
