Residual Odor — Glossary
The odor that remains after the visible soil is removed — the residue still releasing compounds from within the material.
Residual odor is what’s left after you’ve cleaned. The surface looks clean, but residue deep in the material keeps releasing compounds — and the smell returns, especially with humidity or warmth.
It’s the reason cleaning alone sometimes doesn’t fix pet odor: the soil is gone, the residue isn’t.
