Biofilm — Glossary
A bacterial colony embedded in a self-produced slime matrix — protective armor that resists normal cleaning.
A biofilm is a community of bacteria that has built itself a protective slime layer — a matrix of sugars, proteins, and DNA that shields the colony from disinfectants and scrubbing. It forms on any persistently wet surface: pet bowls, drains, damp corners.
Biofilms explain stubborn odor that survives cleaning — the slime protects the colony. Removal needs mechanical disruption (scrubbing) before chemicals can reach the bacteria.
